COENZYME Q10: THE SILENT ENGINE OF OUR CELLS

What it is, what it's for, and why it's important to know when we talk about benessere and ageing.

When we talk about salute, we often focus on what we eat, physical activity, and sleep quality. These are fundamental aspects, but there is also a world that works continuously within us and that deserves to be known: that of cellular energy.

In this context we find the coenzyme Q10, a substance naturally present in our body, involved in the processes through which cells produce the energy necessary to perform their functions.

As a consultant in the field of benessere, I think it's important to explain these mechanisms in a simple way, because knowing your body is the first step to making more conscious choices.

WHAT IS COENZYME Q10?

Coenzyme Q10, also called CoQ10 or ubiquinone, is a fat-soluble molecule produced by our body and present in virtually all cells.

To understand its importance, we need to talk about mitochondria, cellular structures often referred to as the body's powerhouses.

It is precisely in the mitochondria that much of the production of ATP, adenosine triphosphate, a molecule that provides energy for numerous cellular activities, takes place.

Coenzyme Q10 participates in the electron transport chain, a fundamental process for the production of ATP. In other words, it helps make possible the system through which cells derive energy from nutrients.

This function is especially important in tissues that require a lot of energy, such as the heart, kidneys, liver and muscles.

WHAT FUNCTIONS DOES IT PERFORM IN OUR BODY?

The role of coenzyme Q10 is not limited to energy production. Scientific research also recognizes its antioxidant function.

1. Participate in cellular energy production

Every day our body performs thousands of activities: breathing, walking, maintaining body temperature, contracting muscles and renewing tissues. All of these processes require energy.

Coenzyme Q10 contributes to the functioning of the mitochondrial mechanisms that allow cells to produce ATP.

It is important to note that this does not mean that taking a supplement automatically guarantees more perceived energy or a reduction in fatigue. The effects of supplementation depend on several factors and the scientific evidence is not the same for all situations.

2. Contributes to antioxidant defense

Reactive oxygen species are also formed during normal cellular metabolism. When their production exceeds the body's defense capabilities, an imbalance called oxidative stress can develop.

Coenzyme Q10 participates in cellular antioxidant systems, helping to limit some oxidation processes.

This aspect is important because oxidative stress is the subject of numerous studies on the aging process and salute of tissues. It does not mean, however, that taking Q10 necessarily prevents disease or slows human aging.

3. It is present in organs with high energy demand

The heart works without interruption, day and night. The liver, kidneys and muscles also perform activities that require considerable energy expenditure.

It is therefore not surprising that these tissues have relatively high concentrations of coenzyme Q10.

Its presence is physiologically important, but it is good not to confuse this fact with the demonstration that a supplement is able to improve the function of these organs in a healthy person.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH AGE ADVANCEMENT?

Endogenous production of coenzyme Q10 may decrease with age, although the pattern varies according to individual tissues and conditions.

This is one of the reasons why CoQ10 is being studied in the context of ageing and energy metabolism.

However, a misunderstanding should be avoided: aging does not necessarily mean having a coenzyme Q10 deficiency. In a healthy person, the body is generally able to produce it on its own.

Furthermore, there is insufficient evidence to state that theintegrazione is necessary for all people after a certain age.

The point, therefore, is not to chase a substance considered miraculous, but to understand what factors influence our benessere and evaluate any additions based on individual needs.

WHERE IS COENZYME Q10 LOCATED?

In addition to being produced by our body, coenzyme Q10 is present in some foods.

Food sources include:

The amounts present in foods vary and normal nutrition cannot be considered equivalent to concentrated supplementation.

A varied and balanced diet, combined with regular movement, adequate sleep and control of the main cardiovascular risk factors, remains an essential basis for salute.

FOREVER NUTRAQ10: AN ASSOCIATION OF INGREDIENTS

After understanding what coenzyme Q10 is, we can talk about Forever NutraQ10.

It is a dietary supplement that, according to the product description, contains coenzyme Q10, vitamins, minerals and plant extracts.

To correctly evaluate its composition, it is important to examine the complete label, the quantities of the individual ingredients and the methods of use indicated by the manufacturer.

The presence of multiple ingredients does not automatically demonstrate that the formula produces superior benefits over the individual components. It is necessary to consider the actual composition and the available evidence.

As a consultant, my job is to help people understand what they are choosing, what physiological functions are involved, and what expectations are realistic. A supplement may be considered to supplement the diet, but it does not replace a balanced diet, a healthy lifestyle or any prescribed therapies.

It is also advisable to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before using CoQ10 in the presence of pharmacological therapies, especially with anticoagulants such as warfarin, or in case of pathologies and conditions that require special attention.

MY REFLECTION AS A CONSULTANT

We often only realize the importance of our body when something does not work as we would like. Yet, every day, billions of cells perform complex activities that allow us to live, move and face our days.

Knowing the role of substances like coenzyme Q10 helps us better understand these mechanisms and distinguish scientific information from commercial promises.

The benessere does not depend on a single molecule and is not built with a single product. It is the result of many daily choices, the knowledge of one's own body and, when necessary, the support of qualified professionals.

The question I leave you with is this: how much do we really know about the processes that allow our body to function every day, even when we don't think about it?
